u-blox NINA-B50 series comprises compact Bluetooth Low Energy 5.3 triple-core wireless MCU modules, engineered for automotive and professional-grade applications. Featuring a potent Arm Cortex-M33 processor as their primary core, these modules leverage the MCUXpresso SDK for executing sophisticated functionalities. With a diverse array of interfaces, including a 16-bit ADC, they offer remarkable flexibility.
Automotive variants of the NINA-B50 modules boast support for FlexCAN and LIN bus protocols, ensuring seamless integration into automotive or industrial bus networks, serving as a lightweight alternative to conventional cables.
The dedicated radio core, equipped with its own flash and RAM, frees up resources for the primary application and ensures optimised current consumption. This capability enhances system-level power efficiency, enabling other systems to enter sleep mode when inactive, such as cellular or full systems in keyless entry setups. Additionally, besides upgradable Bluetooth Low Energy 5.3 support, the professional-grade NINA-B50 modules also accommodate Matter, Thread and Zigbee protocols. This enables interoperability within the expanding Matter ecosystem, with the dual-PAN feature facilitating bridging use cases for Thread and Zigbee through efficient time-slicing.
The third core constitutes the isolated EdgeLock secure enclave, incorporating advanced security features like secure boot, debug, over-the-air updates, root-of-trust, hardware cryptography, on-the-go flash encryption and Arm TrustZone secure execution environment. Moreover, NINA-B50 supports the NXP EdgeLock2GO service for seamless installation of keys and certificates into end devices, thus simplifying the deployment of Matter devices.
The NINA-B506 variant is equipped with an internal PCB antenna, delivering exceptional performance and extended range, while the NINA-B501 variant features a module pin for an external antenna. Globally certified, the NINA-B50 series streamlines the process for customers, reducing time, cost, and effort. Example applications encompass in-vehicle light control, keyless entry, access control, battery management, telematics, smart buildings and homes, and industrial automation.
